New battery platform announced

New 18v Li-ion battery platform announced in partnership with Metabo

At a press conference in Rottweil, Germany, nine companies, including ROTHENBERGER, announced their collaboration in offering a joint battery platform with premium line power tool manufacturer Metabo. This partnership opens up a world of new tools for users in the future.

From September onwards, a new 18v Li-ion battery platform will be used by ROTHENBERGER and eight other major manufacturing companies; Mafell, Eisenblätter, Collomix, Haaga, Starmix, Eibenstock and Steinel. Since ROTHENBERGER has used Metabo batteries for two years, there will be no major changes for us: The battery will look different from September onwards, but batteries will be compatible – an ideal situation for our users.

Early this year (June 2018), it was announced by Metabo in Nürtingen, Germany, the working partnership with ROTHENBERGER and other tool manufacturers, to create the Cordless Alliance System (CAS). Under the CAS partnership, ROTHEBERGER has been able to develop a clear focus on power tools for professional applications. This partnership with Metabo allows ROTHENBERGER the use of the same battery pack systems, allowing the 100% compatible batteries to be interchanged with other CAS manufacturer tools - ultimately providing installers with a whole range of benefits.

When choosing a technology partner, CAS manufacturer ROTHENBERGER decided to go with Metabo for several reasons, says Dr. Christian Heine, Managing Director, “Due to the developments in the past years, Metabo has conquered the technological leadership and currently offers the most powerful system in the industry.” This new partnership provides end-users with more freedom, flexibility (with a broader range of tools) and overall cost savings - all made possible by sharing the same battery platform across multiple tool manufacturers. Metabo (engineered in Germany) produces premium line power tools, designed specifically for professional users to provide the highest level of safety, reliability, and performance. The Metabo Ultra-M LiHD battery technology offers users the mobility and power for the most demanding industrial applications.

Currently, there are over 110 power tools that encompass the Cordless Alliance System Manufacturers. Horst Garbrecht, President of Metabo, expects the CAS to continue to grow, with a variety of manufacturers joining in the name of advanced battery technology.  Additionally, the high level of research and development gone into producing such innovative technology has led to no shortfalls or corner-cutting.  The 18v Li-ion 4-ALL battery platform is available in both 4.0 & 8.0Ah options, and although cordless, offers all the power and endurance required for high-intesity jobs:  “With Lithium-Ion High-Density Battery (LiHD) we have enough power for the most energy-intensive applications, allowing us to build any hand-held power tool in a cordless version in such a way it meets the professional user’s requirements of power and endurance,” said Horst Garbrecht. The partnership is the latest step towards expanding ROTHENBERGER's joint vision with Metabo of a cordless construction site, entirely run with 18V Lithium-Ion High-Density Battery operated tools. Ultimately, allowing ROTHENBERGER to continue to be a forward-thinking tool manufacturer within the industry.
